R.A. of the month.

Consistency and diligence are key attributes for the workforce and two attributes that are must haves in the Office of Residence Life. Our RA of the month has been the poster child for these attributes and has on many occasions gone beyond of duty. This month we salute our very own – Bethanie Mookram

1.       Why did you want to become an RA?

I wanted to become an R.A. because I wanted the challenge. I knew that being an R.A. would be a great way to showcase my leadership and peer counseling skills. Also the R.A. job is great for my experience in the world of work because I want to be a social worker.

2.       What do you find most challenging?

The most challenging time for me was my first semester as an R.A. in Allison Hall. There were several nights that I would be up throughout the night dealing with resident issues with security and I would still have to complete assignments for my 8:45 a.m. class. By the way that semester I managed to achieve a 4.0 G.P. A.

3.       How does it feel to be recognized for your efforts?

Well I have been consistent throughout my R.A. career; I do not think I did anything different this month. But I am happy to be R.A. of the month especially since it is my last month here at Monroe.

4.       What is your major?

Criminal Justice

5.       How old are you?

6.       What are your career goals?

I am going into Law Enforcement and Social Work.

7.       What advice do you have for current and future RA’s?

The Current R.A.’s are some of the best people I have ever met. I gained valuable friendships here. Every single one of them is unique, intelligent, diverse and just beautiful individuals. I have a close relationship with most of them. My advice is just to stay the same and keep Res. Life a happy place.

For the new R.A.’s, now that you entered Res. Life you should be prepared for a memorable experience. As I am sure you have heard before, Res. Life is a family. Sticking together and being a unit is important. Loyalty is also very important. Also make sure that you take care of yourself first. If things become too overwhelming step away and clear your mind. Enjoy your college life but always make sure that you handle your responsibilities. Always express how you feel in a respectful manner. Most importantly HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!
